Are you interested in protecting California’s vulnerable adults? Do you want to help stop waste, fraud, and abuse in the Medi-Cal program? Join a multidisciplinary team of attorneys, special agents, and auditors working together to prosecute healthcare fraud and those who abuse or neglect elderly and dependent adults in California.
The Attorney General’s Office, Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse (DMFEA) works to investigate and prosecute fraud against the Medi-Cal program and abuse and neglect of elderly and dependent adults. Within DMFEA, the Criminal Prosecutions team handles complex criminal cases in state courts involving (1) fraud committed against the Medi-Cal program by doctors, pharmacies, medical equipment suppliers, and other Medi-Cal providers, and (2) criminal abuse and neglect of elders and dependent adults in skilled nursing and other residential care facilities.
DMFEA is a vertical prosecution unit, where prosecutors work closely with in-house special agents and investigative auditors. Prosecutors participate in DMFEA’s investigation, determine what charges to bring, and are responsible for the criminal prosecution from filing through conviction and sentencing.

• Prosecuting other related crimes, including the diversion of opioids and other controlled prescription drugs, identity theft, financial abuse, and physical abuse or neglect causing harm or death.
• Working with expert witnesses, including computer forensic examiners, coroners, medical professionals, and forensic auditors.
