About Dentures
Finding the right type for your mouth
There is no single denture. What suits you depends on how many teeth are missing, the condition of the ones remaining, and how much stability you want from the finished result. All of it is decided at the first appointment, after an assessment rather than from a catalog.
The Options
Types of denture we provide
Three routes, and the difference between them is mostly about what holds them in place.
- Partial dentures For replacing some teeth while the remaining natural teeth stay in place.
- Complete dentures For replacing a full arch where no natural teeth remain.
- Implant-supported dentures Anchored to implants placed in the jawbone for a more secure fit.
- Denture repair Existing dentures repaired rather than replaced where that is the better answer.
The Process
How dentures are made and fitted
It is a staged process, and the adjustments along the way are the part that makes them comfortable.
- Consultation Oral health is evaluated, options discussed and impressions taken of your mouth.
- Custom fabrication The dentures are made from those impressions, with color, shape and size chosen for a natural look.
- Fitting Comfort is checked and adjustments made for a proper bite.
- Trial period New wearers usually need follow-up visits to settle any discomfort.
- Ongoing care Regular cleaning, removal during sleep and check-ups keep them serviceable.
Why Dentures
What removable dentures restore
For many people the change is less about appearance than about eating a normal meal again.
- Chewing and eating They restore eating comfort and support a varied diet.
- Speech Filling the gaps helps speech, which missing teeth affect more than people expect.
- A non-surgical route They replace teeth without surgery, which makes them accessible to more patients.
Getting Started
Talking through the options
The first appointment is an assessment and a conversation – what is missing, what is left, and what you want back. Talega Dental Group has treated families in San Clemente since 2003, and denture work is one of the things we are asked about most.

The short answer
Dentures are custom-made replacements for missing teeth, made from impressions of your own mouth with the color, shape and size chosen to sit naturally with your face. They come as partial dentures, which replace some teeth while the natural ones stay, complete dentures, which replace a full arch, and implant-supported dentures, which are anchored to implants in the jawbone for a more secure fit. They restore the ability to eat a full diet and to speak clearly.
Common Questions
Dentures FAQ
- What is the difference between partial and complete dentures?
Partial dentures replace some teeth while your remaining natural teeth stay in place, and complete dentures replace a full arch where no natural teeth remain. Which one suits you depends on how many teeth are missing and the condition of the ones remaining. That is decided at the first appointment after an assessment.
- What are implant-supported dentures?
Implant-supported dentures are dentures anchored to dental implants placed in the jawbone. Because they are held by the implants rather than resting on the gum, they give a more secure fit and increased chewing efficiency compared with a removable denture. Whether they suit you depends on how much stability you want and what the assessment shows.
- Will they feel strange at first?
New dentures commonly feel unfamiliar during a settling-in period. That is why follow-up visits are part of the process, as they are where any discomfort is addressed and adjustments are made. Comfort and the bite are also checked at the fitting, and those adjustments are what make the dentures comfortable.
- How do I look after them?
Dentures are looked after with regular cleaning, taking them out during sleep, and keeping up your dental check-ups. The check-ups let us see how they are fitting and whether anything needs attention. That routine is what keeps them serviceable and determines how long they last.
- Can a broken denture be repaired?
A broken denture can often be repaired. We provide denture repair, and existing dentures are repaired rather than replaced where that is the better answer. It is worth asking before assuming a replacement is needed.
- How are they made to look natural?
Dentures are made to look natural by building them from impressions of your own mouth. The color, shape and size of the teeth are chosen to fit your facial structure rather than to a standard. Comfort and the bite are then checked at the fitting, with adjustments made where needed.
